ZOO
We believe in a better future in which humans can live in harmony with nature. We are mindful of how our actions can impact the environment and are constantly striving to improve in order to become more sustainable.
RECYCLING
Inside the zoo there are bins for recycling organic waste, plastic, glass and cans, and non-recyclable items.
ELECTRIC VEHICLES
All vehicles used by the keepers, gardeners, maintenance staff and management are electric.
STRAWS
Compostable straws can be provided at the cafe, only on request, if absolutely necessary.
PLASTIC BAGS
Only if absolutely necessary, paper and Mater-Bi® bags will be provided at the zoo.
Mater-Bi® e PLA
Mater-Bi® and PLA are biodegradable bioplastics, which is why they were chosen for the disposable tableware in our Self-Service Restaurant.
WATER SAVING
All the sinks in the toilet facilities are fitted with timers and the toilets feature a double flush button.
LED LIGHTING
All the lights in the toilet facilities are fitted with LED lights on a timer.
CERTIFIED FISH
The zoo’s piscivorous animals are fed with certified fish, protecting the sea and fishermen.
ZOOVENIR
TREEDOM PROJECT
Through the Treedom Project, the Zoo has begun to plant the first 300 trees to offset its CO2 emissions.
LESS PAPER MORE FORESTS
The toilet paper used at the zoo is FSC certified and paper towel dispensers have been replaced with energy saving electric hand dryers.
WATER REFILL STATIONS
You can use our water refill stations, located near the cafe at the entrance and at the main Parco Zoo Punta Verde restaurant, to fill your water bottles.
PLASTIC BOTTLE CRUSHER
A plastic bottle crusher is located outside the Self Service restaurant. For every three bottles crushed, you will receive an “ecovoucher” which can be used in the Zoovenir shop.
CREATIVE REUSE
At the zoo, cardboard and plastic packaging is reused to create habitat enrichments.
SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY
The zoo has an agreement with the local bus service to encourage sustainable transport. Those travelling to the zoo by bus are entitled to a discount of €2.00 on an admission ticket on showing a bus ticket validated within one hour.
