These 10 success stories reveal how zoos and aquariums help nature

Italian zoos and aquariums participate in the “Reverse the Red” project by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

UPSIDE-DOWN FORESTS

Foreste Sottosopra (‘Upside-down Forests’) is a campaign created by the EDUZOO working group in response to the need to educate the public and raise awareness on the delicate issue of partially or completely submerged forests.

NATURE BANDITS

Banditi in Natura (‘Nature Bandits’) is a campaign created by the EDUZOO working group in response to the need to educate the public and raise awareness on the delicate topic of poaching.

SNOW LEOPARD TRUST

The Parco Zoo Punta Verde supports the Snow Leopard Trust. The trust is dedicated to the conservation of snow leopards in their natural habitat through scientific research, raising awareness and educating local populations, and protecting the areas where it lives. 

WILDCATS CONSERVATION ALLIANCE

The Parco Zoo Punta Verde supports the Wildcats Conservation Alliance, which is dedicated to the in situ conservation of tigers and Amur leopards by raising awareness in local populations.

RED PANDA NETWORK

The Parco Zoo Punta Verde supports the Red Panda Network, which is dedicated to the conservation of red pandas in their natural habitat through scientific research, raising awareness in local populations, and protecting the areas where they live. 

GIRAFFE CONSERVATION FOUNDATION

Since 2016 the Parco Zoo Punta Verde has supported the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, based in Namibia and dedicated to the conservation of giraffes. 

SAVE THE CAISSARA

Since 2002 the Parco Zoo Punta Verde has supported the Save the Caissara project, which works to protect the Leontopithecus caissara, or black-faced lion tamarin, a small Brazilian monkey not present in captivity.

A DAY WITH MIC

EDUZOO, the working group for education established by the Italian Union of Zoos and Aquaria (UIZA), has chosen to dedicate a day to the world of invertebrates. It provides an opportunity to get to know Millipedes, Insects & Co up close.  

BEWARE OF THE ALIEN

The aim of the Occhio all’Alieno (‘Beware of the Alien’) campaign is to educate visitors to zoos and raise awareness on the important and timely issue of invasive non-native plant and animal species.  

VOLOHASY bamboo, humans and lemurs

Volohasy is a bamboo reforestation project in the dragon tree rainforest of Maromizaha, a biodiversity hotspot in eastern Madagascar.  

PROYECTO TITI'

Proyecto Titì is a conservation project dedicated to the cotton-top tamarin, focused on studying and protecting this endangered species.

I SUPPORT TOADS

Io Sto Col Rospo (I Support Toads) is a campaign to educate and raise awareness conducted in collaboration with the Committee for the Foce del Tagliamento Nature Reserve. It was created with the aim of protecting amphibians, especially toads. 

I SUPPORT KENTISH PLOVERS

The environmental educational project Io Sto Col Fratino (I Support Kentish Plovers) was launched with the aim of fostering a “feeling for nature”, meaning care, respect and curiosity about what lives around us.

 

KILIMANJARO ANIMAL CREW

The Kilimanjaro Animal C.R.E.W. (Center for Rescue, Education and Wildlife) is a rescue centre for wildlife in Tanzania, based at Makoa-Farm.
